The internet is still buzzing about “Ricky Tony” after watching the premiere of Lifetime’s Wendy Williams movie on Saturday night.
In the movie, Wendy revealed she was date-raped by the entertainer in 1988. Of course, the natural question is who is the real Ricky Tony? In a recent interview, Wendy Williams revealed the man who [allegedly] date-raped her was an R&B singer known as Sherrick.
He mesmerized me with his twinkling eyes from him. He flipped the interview around to where he was interviewing me – I was just gaga over this man and he asked me to go to an opening party, an album release party, with him that night. And before the party, I was date-raped by him.
Sherrick was a soul singer and musician signed to Motown. One of his most notable singles from him, “Baby, I’m For Real,” was covered by After 7 in 1992.
He too, struggled with drugs and entered rehab programs. In 1999, Sherrick announced he was clean and planning to make a major comeback before he died suddenly on January 22, 1999. He was 41. His cause of death is still unknown. It ’s unclear if Sherrick was ever confronted with Wendy Williams’ allegations prior to his death.
